Tonight Eddy and Goldie took us for a ride through the woods guided by the light of the almost full moon. The quiet of the night was so peaceful. The nights are starting to cool down to the mid-40s…. time for long sleeves and vests again.
Today we drove to a nearby state park on a whim and were pleasantly surprised to find the best riding location of the summer. Chippokes Plantation, located in Surry, VA, is a beautiful 1,600+ acre plantation turned state park bordering the historic James River. The temperature was perfect… mid-70’s with a refreshing breeze, and the scenery was [...]
So it is official we have filled the paperwork out for our first ride , a 30 miler in Virigina. So the training begins and we are excited. So for right now every minute of daylight needs to be used to ride and condtion horses. Thanks to Amy and Danielle for coming to look and [...]
We are happily exhausted after a busy but fulfilling weekend outdoors… On Saturday we trailered up to Bear Creek Lake State Park in Cumberland County, VA, with Eddy and Flame. We were surprised to be the only riders there, we had the entire ”CMT” trail system to ourselves. The trails were lush and green, very wooded and scenic, but with lots [...]
We picked up our little Finny this morning from NC State University. He perked up when he saw us and we were happy to see he was feeling more like himself, although still sporting the eye lavage and heavily medicated. We loaded him up and brought him to Dr. Cupp’s, our veteranarian just down the [...]
Tonight we sat out in the pasture in the cool night air, enjoying the company of some of our old friends and new friends. The pasture takes us away from all that is civil, there is only the sound of the night drifitng in and out. The night is black and the sky makes you [...]
On Tuedsay we had to take Finn to the vet, Finn had an ulcer on his right eye and it was melting his eye. So off we go to NC State Vet hospital. My sweet Finn was his usual well behaved self. He went through a ton of tests and had a lavage tube inserted into [...]
A couple weeks ago some special family members came to visit and we enjoyed having them. Thank you for helping cut and stack all the wood and sharing some hard working days with us!
Late last night after dark, we went to feed the horses in the pasture. It was so dark and I could not see them, but after calling Momo and HT for several minutes, you could hear the thunder as they ran to approach us. The each came over and said “Hello” as we brgan placing [...]
We took Emba, Brownie, and Emma to the vet yesterday to do ultrasounds on all three and get Emma’s teeth floated. The vet confirmed that both Emba and Brownie are pregnant with healthy little foals, but Emma was not. Probably lost it from the steroid medicine she had to go on when she was having [...]
