How long is a week? Well, as the snow and rain keep pounding Virgina and the never ending mud becomes more and more like quick sand I think seven days. When the seventh day arrives we will be the proud owner of a beautiul ranch, home and new chapter waiting to be written There are pastures that are established and have grass, yes I said grass. No mud, no trees, and no roots sticking out everywhere. A safe place for the horses, and a place where I can go and feed the horses without worrying about being sucked down and walk right out of my boot to land face first into the mud. Yeah, if someone would of saw me they still would be laughing. Seven days till our piece of Paradise is ours, and we will see new foals in the fields in a couple months and we will make this place our home. Seven days seems like forever right now…..

Finny spent a month down in North Carolina @ Jesse Chases’s farm. Jesse was trying him out to see if he had what it took to be a reiner. Jesse was concerned that Finny need to bulk up some and build his stamnia up. He took him to Rob Bick for him to take a look at. After much consideration we have decided to geld Finny. We hope this will help him grow an inch or two and build him up some. Finny is now home and is still the sweet boy he was before he left. He will be given another six months to grow and then he will begin his training.

This evening was a hard one, we sold Goldie to a new home. We enjoyed Andrea and Angela and meeting both of them. We know Goldie will be loved and well cared for. But the whole time both Kalli and I had that lump in our throat. We both knew we were doing the right thing yet, it was hard to know tomorrow Goldie would not be out there to greet us in the morning. Sweet Goldie who loves the babies and watched over them at all times.

Blondie walked the fence line wondering where her friend was, and where was she going? How could we tell Blondie that her favorite friend and the one she looked up to, was going to a new home? Hell, who was going to make US feel better about it? Who was going to explain to Goldie that this was the best for her? She would be ridden and lots of daily attention…. How can you explain that to her, when inside you are asking yourself is this the right thing to do? Goldie has never shown a mean bone in her body, done everything we have asked of her, so why ?

Andrea and Angela loved Rhett, and are so excited about the fact that Goldie is in foal to him. All they kept saying was how beautiful he was and how hard the wait will be…….but I promised them that seeing that special foal will be worth the wait.

This morning we delivered Little to her new home. The Webers welcomed her with open arms and when I saw the pastures I knew then and there we had done the right thing. Little was so sweet and Annie and Stuart welcomed her with smiles and giggles. A new pony for me, Annie told me. Little walked through the barn and into a holding area where she meet Montana, a 22 year old gelding, who was anxious to see another horse. It took less than five muntes to know the two of them would be fine. We turned her out and she came back to Stuart for one more treat and a little reassurance.

Little is going to be loved and spoiled, which most ponies dream about, to have children all around them

As I slowly recover, I try each day to enjoy my horses. Rhett has been moved up front due to the cut on his front foot. Each day he has gotten better with me cleaning, scrubbing and bandaging his foot. My bond with him grows and I want more than ever to establish that trust and bond with him. He is beautiful, and strong but with constant work should come along. Then I decided that the babies needed some tarp training, so I laid the tarp out, and tough little Blondie followed me with no halter right on it. I loved all over her, and she followed me off and right back on. Now big old Nemo he was not sure about this blue tarp, and it took lots of me talking to him and a halter and lead rope to get him to approach it. He finally stepped on it, and got a cookie for it, well he loved that so he followed me over it time and time again. I gave him lots of pats and words of praise. So then I decided to turn it over OH NO, different color and so much scarier. Oh Mom, please do not make me go over that silver tarp. After much love and manywalks around it, he finally stepped on it, stood there and realized it was not so bad. And that cookie in my hand said hey this works. So we walked over it again and again, and then I made him bow on it. Success, my little boy did it. His price just went up and as the trust between us grows, it will be hard to ever let him go. He will keep learning to face his fears as I do each and every day

Today will be the last day for several weeks of me being able to jump on a horse and let their smell and company wash away all the troubles in the world. Each and every one of these wise and soulful creatures brings so much to me, who I am, and make me feel alive and well. I watch sweet Nemo as if he is my son. He can be a brat, pushy and relentless, but then he walks over and stands in front of me. He looks at me with those expressive eyes and my heart is overwhelmed with love for this creature who was given to me on a cold March day. How will I ever be able to let someone else be his Mom? He runs in the round pen, with his tail in the air, nostrils flaring and catches ever cue I give him. He calls out to Aria and she paces watching that her little friend is okay. I finish his training and ask for a bow, he gladly obeys waiting for his cookie and scratch on his head. This is the life I have always wanted, the peaceful night, horses all around me. A black stallion who completed a life long dream, Finny who is slowly recovering from the eye injury. Eddy, and Blondie still working on their bond, but we know that Uncle Eddy will watch over the little ones. He takes that task very serious, and Nemo knows where he is at all times. The daylight is getting shorter as fall comes on, leaves starting to change. So for now we have to grab all the light with the horses we can get. So this morning, we will head over the see the horses at the Schwartz’s. Spend some morning time with them, feed and love on them for a while, just enjoy that they allow us to share the morning mist with their presence, this is like a fix for an addiction and causes a high that is hard for most to understand,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
